Our Team
Douglas Applegate
After working as a college financial aid administrator and admissions officer for almost a decade, Doug realized he had a passion and talent for educating and helping people plan for life’s major events. Doug’s career choice to become a financial advisor has allowed him to help hundreds of individuals, families and business owners.
Doug has learned that market performance, individual stocks, bonds and insurance matter, but only in the context of how they assist his clients in reaching their goals and dreams, what he calls “ROL” or Return on Life. Over the years, he has had his philosophy confirmed by his clients that ROL is more important to them than “ROI” or Return on Investments.
Educating his clients on the “Two Equations of Investing,” Doug’s focus in mitigating risk and building investment income is a pillar of his practice. The foundation of his business is built upon client education as he strongly believes an educated consumer is a safer consumer. Realistic optimism drives Doug’s faith in our collective future. Trust is earned not given. Doug’s goal is to earn that trust every day.
With more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, Doug not only believes in educating his clients but also continually learning on his client’s behalf. Doug has held the Accredited Asset Management Specialist® (AAMS®) designation from the College for Financial Planning since 2005. After 16 years with his previous firm, Doug opened Centennial State Wealth Advisors in May of 2017. He feels strongly that being an independent advisor associated with Raymond James allows him to better serve his clients.
Academic scholarships, athletic scholarships and many jobs allowed Doug to pay for his college, where he graduated from Willamette University with a double major in political science and psychology and a minor in economics. He was a four-year letter winner in soccer serving two years as team captain. As a senior, he was awarded one of only ten keys to the university for his service and leadership.
Born and raised in the Denver area, Doug enjoys spending time with his family and being active in the community. Doug is the immediate past president and board member of the Littleton Public Schools Foundation; past president of Integrated Family Community Services, the Littleton Rotary Foundation and the LRF investment committee. In addition, Doug has coached youth soccer for over 31 years. Doug’s family served the community as foster parents to at-risk infants and hopes to do so again in the future. Doug has 21-year-old boy, girl, boy triplets and a 12-year-old daughter.
